Three Assam residents held with drugs in Ri-Bhoi

SHILLONG, Jan 2: In an operation conducted by the Ri-Bhoi District Executive Force (DEF) on January 1, 2025, three individuals hailing from Assam were apprehended at 15th Mile, GS Road, Byrnihat, along with contraband items.
According to a statement here, the individuals were identified as Ekramul Hussain (30) of Kupalimari village of Morigaon district, Monjuwara Begum (32) of Bhuragaon of Morigaon district and Nihar Begum (30) of Amtola of Kamrup district.
During the operation, approximately 254.16 grams of suspected heroin, four mobile phones and cash amounting to Rs 58,380 were seized.
The arrested individuals are believed to have sourced the drugs from distributors in neighbouring states and are suspected of amassing significant wealth through drug peddling.
Meanwhile, a Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by the Ri-Bhoi Additional Superintendent of Police, has been formed to probe the suspects’ network, financial transactions, and to initiate forfeiture proceedings for any illegally acquired property as per legal procedures.
