Harijan Colony relocation: Govt awaits defence land

Shillong, Jan 7: The state government is awaiting a response from the Ministry of Defence to allocate two acres of land to relocate the 342 families residing at Them Iew Mawlong.
Chief Secretary DP Wahlang said they approached the central government to allot two acres of defence land within the vicinity of Them Iew Mawlong.
“We have communicated our request to the Defence Ministry. We hope we’ll get a positive response as the area we have requested is quite small but viable, as far as we are concerned,” he said.
Stating that they will take it forward once they get a response from the Ministry of Defence, Wahlang said both Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Commissioner-Secretary of Urban Affairs, Vijay Kumar D went to the ministry for this purpose before the Christmas holidays in December.
According to him, the ball is in the court of the ministry.
