SHILLONG, Jan 8: A majority of the events of the upcoming Meghalaya Games, set to begin on January 20, will take place in West Jaintia Hills.
Sports Minister Shakliar Warjri confirmed on Wednesday that the sports infrastructure in Jaintia Hills is fully prepared to host the event.
“The opening ceremony will be held on January 20 in West Jaintia Hills and most of the competitions will take place across various venues in the district. The swimming discipline will be held in Shillong, while golf will be played at the Garrison Ground in Shillong,” the minister stated.
In a related development, the minister revealed that he had met Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya last month and formally submitted a proposal to host the 39th National Games in early 2027.
“In terms of sports infrastructure, we are ready to host the National Games, provided we are given the opportunity,” Warjri added.
