HMPV tally rises to nine in India

Ahmedabad, Jan 9: An 80-year-old man tested positive for human metapneumovirus (HMPV) infection in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on Thursday, officials said.
The patient is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital and he does not have any travel history abroad, a statement issued by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) said.
With this, at least nine cases of HMPV infection have been reported across India so far.
India detected five cases of HMPV on Monday itself. Two of the five cases were detected in Karnataka. Two more cases were later detected in Chennai. One case was detected in Ahmedabad.
On Tuesday, two more cases were reported in Maharashtra from Nagpur. On Wednesday, another case was confirmed in Mumbai, taking the total tally of HMPV cases to three. The latest detection in Gujarat takes the total number of positive cases to nine. (Agencies)
