NONGPOH, Jan 10: Dr. Yugal Kishore Mohanta, Assistant Professor and Group Leader of the Nanobiotechnology and Translational Knowledge Laboratory in the Department of Applied Biology at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), has been awarded the international Research Networking Project (RNP-2024) grant.
Funded by XJENZA MALTA under the Government of Malta, the initiative is a collaborative effort with Professor Renald Blundell of the University of Malta. The project, identified as RNP-2024-008, is titled ‘Developing therapeutic functional foods by formulating symbiotic microcapsules using edible mushrooms as prebiotic resources—MYCO-BIO.’
Speaking about the project, Dr. Mohanta stated, “This endeavor will significantly advance the development of functional foods, leveraging mushrooms as a promising food resource for the future.” It may be mentioned that Dr. Mohanta is an accomplished researcher, having successfully completed a project grant from the Department of Science and Technology—Anusandhan National Research Foundation (DST-ANRF) for the period 2022–2024.
The primary objective of the RNP-2024 project is to foster enduring research collaborations between USTM and the University of Malta, aligning with USTM’s global vision.
This collaboration is aimed at creating opportunities for researchers and students from both institutions to engage in productive exchanges, paving the way for innovative research and future advancements.
