NONGPOH, Jan 11: One person was injured in a road accident on National Highway 6 (NH-6) in Umrangksai, along the Guwahati-Shillong route.
The mishap, which occurred at around 6:10 pm on January 10, involved a scooty (AS-01-DD-2780) and an empty truck (ML-11-A-1410).
The scooty rider, identified as 32-year-old Jeferson Phawa from Khiah village in East Jaintia Hills district, was en route from the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) to Shillong.
Upon reaching Umrangksai, Phawa reportedly collided with the rear tire of the truck on the handyman side, leading to his fall into a roadside drain.
The truck was driven by one Rangkynsai Nongphlang of Umshorshor, Ri-Bhoi district.
In the incident, Phawa sustained head injuries and was immediately taken to Nongpoh Civil Hospital in an ambulance.
Due to the severity of his condition, the attending doctor referred him to a higher medical centre for further treatment.
Meanwhile, police have completed necessary formalities and secured the scooty at Nongpoh Police Station.
An investigation into the accident is currently under way.
