SHILLONG, Jan 14: Busting a trafficking racket operating along the India-Bangladesh border in the state, the BSF has apprehended 7 persons — four Bangladeshi national and three Indian touts — near the border in East Khasi Hills.
Acting on specific intelligence, 4th Battalion BSF troops, on Sunday, detected four Bangladeshi nationals’ attempt to cross into India illegally, when they were intercepted by the troops. During preliminary questioning, it was revealed that the individuals were planning to settle in India and had sought the assistance of the three Indian nationals to facilitate their illegal movement within the country.
All the apprehended persons were handed over to Dawki police station for further action.
It was alleged that the racket was charging anywhere between Rs 10,000 and Rs 20,000 per person for facilitating illegal entry into India, officials said. (With PTI inputs)
