Another JEE aspirant dies by suicide in Kota

Kota, Jan 17: A JEE aspirant in Kota committed suicide by hanging himself from a fan, said police officials on Friday. The student has been identified as Abhijeet Giri (18), a resident of Odisha, who was living in Kota since April 2024. The reason for the suicide is not yet known. This is the third case of suicide of a coaching student in Kota in the last 10 days. (IANS)

Cops arrested for storing liquor bottles

Patna, Jan 16: Four policemen from the Sultanganj police station were arrested for allegedly storing liquor bottles within the premises of the police station. The incident has come as a serious violation, particularly in Bihar, where the prohibition of alcohol has been strictly enforced since 2016. City SP of Patna (East), K Ramdas, confirmed the development, stating that an FIR had been lodged against the accused policemen. “Following their arrest, the four policemen were presented before the civil court, which subsequently sent them to judicial custody.” (IANS)

Three persons drown in Ranchi waterfall

Ranchi, Jan 17: Three men, aged between 20 and 25 years, drowned while bathing in Tiru waterfall in Jharkhand’s Ranchi district on Friday, police said. The waterfall, located under Budmu police station area, is around 40 km from the state capital. Budmu police station in-charge Ritesh Kumar confirmed that the victims included one from Chanho and two from Ranchi. The group had visited the waterfall for a picnic when the incident happened. Local divers retrieved the bodies from the water, but the victims were declared brought dead at a nearby hospital, Kumar added. (PTI)

23 booked over obscene acts in bar

Thane, Jan 17: The police in Maharashtra’s Thane district have registered a case against 23 persons, including eight female servers and as many customers, for allegedly indulging in obscenity in a bar, an official said on Friday. The alleged obscenity came to light during a raid at the bar located along the Kalyan-Shil road on the night of January 14, he said. (PTI)

Man gets death penalty for raping, killing minor girl

Kolkata, Jan 17: A court in West Bengal on Friday handed the death penalty to an individual, Ashoke Sinha, convicted for raping and murdering a five-year old minor girl at Gurap in Hooghly district in November last year. The death sentence was pronounced by judge Chandraprabha Bhattacharya of the POCSO court at Chinsurah in Hooghly district on Friday. (PTI)
