New Delhi, Jan 18: AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal announced on Saturday that his party would take decisive steps to extend the benefits of free electricity and water to tenants, if re-elected to power in Delhi.
Addressing a press conference here, Kejriwal highlighted concerns raised by tenants across Delhi. “Wherever I go, I meet people living on rent, who say that they benefit from good schools and hospitals but are deprived of the free electricity and water schemes,” he said.
“We will ensure that after the elections, tenants, many of whom hail from the Purvanchal region, will also enjoy the benefits of free electricity and water,” the former Delhi chief minister added.
He said this is his guarantee to every tenant in Delhi that a comprehensive plan will be implemented to ensure that these benefits reach the rented households.
Reacting to the AAP supremo’s announcement, Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav claimed that in a desperate bid to salvage his eroded voter base, Kejriwal is recycling his old, unfulfilled promises to impress the voters.
“This latest lie of giving free power and water to tenants is an old gimmick that he had indulged in before the 2015 and 2019 Delhi Assembly elections. Kejriwal has failed to fulfil his promises in the last 10 years and why is he repeating them now, when defeat stares at him in the Delhi Assembly elections to end his corrupt rule?” Yadav asked. AIMIM, BSP step up
campaign with street plays, wall paintings, cricket matches
As Delhi Assembly elections approach, political activity had intensified with smaller parties like AIMIM, BSP and others in the city engaging voters through grassroots campaigns including street plays , wall paintings, and cricket matches with children.
Delhi will go to polls on February 5, with the ruling AAP, BJP, and Congress dominating the political landscape.
However, parties with significant influence in other states, such as Asaduddin Owaisi’s All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), and Munish Kumar Raizada’s Bharatiya Liberal Party (BLP), are working to expand their presence in the national capital.
The AIMIM has launched an intensive door-to-door campaign, particularly in Okhla, where its candidate Shafa-ur-Rehman and his wife are leading outreach efforts, along with student activists from Jamia Milia Islamia and former Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) protester. AAP claims Kejriwal’s car attacked
New Delhi, Jan 18: The AAP on Saturday alleged that Arvind Kejriwal’s car was attacked by BJP candidate Parvesh Verma’s supporters during campaigning in the New Delhi constituency, prompting Verma to hit back as he accused the AAP chief of hitting three people with his vehicle.
Verma claimed that the three victims have sustained leg injuries and said he would file an “attempt to murder” case against Kejriwal.
The incident has sparked a political war of words between the ruling AAP in Delhi and the BJP ahead of the February 5 assembly polls. Sharing a video on social media, the AAP claimed that a stone can be seen landing on Kejriwal’s vehicle, accusing BJP’s Verma of getting its chief attacked by his “goons”.
Vishal, Abhishek and Rohit, and tried to meet Kejriwal for jobs, police personnel from Punjab beat them up, Verma alleged. “The three youth were hit by Kejriwal’s vehicle in which he was sitting. The trio claimed that they came in front of the vehicle and the driver applied brakes but then moved it when signalled by Kejriwal,” Verma said.
He said several videos of the incident were shot by the locals that showed the three youths being “hit” by the vehicle.
Kejriwal says police prevented documentary screening
New Delhi, Jan 18: AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday alleged the Delhi Police prevented the screening of a documentary exposing the “secrets” and “conspiracies” behind the arrest of his party leaders.
A senior Delhi police office said no permission was sought for the screening event despite the Model Code of Conduct being in force in Delhi in view of the assembly polls on February 5. But Kejriwal questioned why was permission needed for a private screening event. He told a press conference here the documentary — Unbreakable — was to be shown to the media at the private event, and it was not any political programme. “No votes were going to be sought at the event neither anything was to be said against any party,” Kejriwal said. The AAP convener shared a picture of the venue of the screening at the Pyarelal Bhawan at ITO, showing a heavy police presence. He charged the police did not allow the screening at the behest of the BJP.
“The BJP is completely scared of the documentary because it uncovers the secrets and conspiracies behind the arrest of AAP leaders in the past two years. It exposes the illegal and unconstitutional activities of the BJP,” he alleged. (PTI)
