SHILLONG, Jan 23: In a bid to ensure public safety and maintain cleanliness in the city, the District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills has issued an order prohibiting overloaded hay-laden trucks and pickup trucks from plying across Shillong.
The decision was prompted by concerns over the safety hazards posed by overloaded vehicles, which can come into contact with electric wires and cause major fire incidents.
Additionally, the hay falling from these trucks has been littering the roads, creating a nuisance and undermining the localities’ annual cleaning efforts, the order stated.
