SHILLONG, Jan 23: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has assured to provide all necessary support to Meghalaya to host the National Games in 2027.
Informing this, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday said during his recent meeting with the Union Home Minister, he had sought the Centre’s support to ensure that the state is able to host the National Games in 2027.
According to the chief minister, the Union Home Minister was keen that the Games should be held in the North East. Assam was the last state from the Northeast to host the National Games in 2008.
The CM said he had met and discussed the same with the Chairperson of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).
This year the Games are being held in Uttarakhand, and in 2026, the National Games will not be held as India is hosting the Asian Games.
The state government is contemplating to host the National Games in the early part of 2027.
