TURA, Jan 24: The All Selsella NGOs’ Alliance comprising the GSU, FKJGP, GSMC, ADE, ASWA, ACHIK, NGCO and others have submitted a complaint to Justice (retired) BP Katakey, seeking an investigation into the alleged illegal coal mining and transportation in the area.
According to the organisations, illegal coal mining is taking place at Balal Adugre and Goeragre in West Garo Hills and the illegally-mined coal is being transported in the night through the Selsella-Garobadha road.
Pointing out that the illegal activity not only violated environmental regulations but also caused irreparable damage to the local ecosystem, infrastructure and safety concerns as well as disruptions to the local community, the groups demanded a thorough investigation into the illegalities.
