Shillong gears up for R-Day celebration

SHILLONG, Jan 24: Preparations are going on in full swing in Shillong for the celebration of the 76th Republic Day on Sunday.
The authorities have heightened security across the city for a peaceful celebration of the occasion. The illumination of government installations has added to the festive spirit.
Street vendors joined in the patriotic fervour, selling the national flag. Many government offices have made arrangements to hoist the Tricolour.
The ceremonial parade and flag hoisting ceremony will see the participation of dignitaries across the state.
In Shillong, Governor CH Vijayashankar will unfurl the national flag and take the salute at the parade. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma will do so in Tura.
Deputy Chief Ministers Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar will take part in the celebration at Nongstoin and Mawkyrwat respectively, Ministers Paul Lyngdoh at Nongpoh, Comingone Ymbon at Jowai, AT Mondal at Williamnagar, Rakkam A Sangma at Baghmara, Marcuise N Marak at Resubelpara, Ampareen Lyngdoh at Ampati, Kyrmen Shylla at Khliehriat and Shakliar Warjri at Mairang.
Meanwhile, the Governor will host a reception at the Raj Bhavan at 11 am on that day to commemorate the celebration. The city is set to come together in a display of patriotism, unity, and pride.
