SHILLONG, Jan 25: The state government is yet to fulfill the infrastructure requirements of the Shillong College of Engineering to meet the standards set by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
“We have made some modifications as per AICTE requirements and are in the process of addressing them. It is not yet complete but is progressing,” said Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma.
Although the construction of the Shillong College of Engineering is finished, the institution has not become operational due to observations raised by the AICTE. To address these concerns, the government is developing a separate administrative block.
“We are working with the ministry on these matters. Affiliation and recognition come first; only then can we begin operations. The process is underway,” the minister stated.
Sangma also shared that the college, which is the state’s first engineering institution, will feature five departments: Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Mining Engineering.
He further clarified that the state reservation policy will be implemented at the college, as it is a government-sponsored institution.
