TURA, Jan 28: Social activist from South Garo Hills, Greneth Sangma has once again raised the issue of Aadhaar being made mandatory for school students in the state, with Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma, claiming that the move goes against the Supreme Court’s ruling on the matter.
In a fresh complaint with the Education minister on Tuesday, Greneth referred to the SC judgement in the case of Justice KS Puttaswamy (Retd) vs Union of India on September 26, 2018. As per Greneth, the SC ruling at the time had stated that “Aadhaar cannot be made mandatory for school admissions or for providing any service or benefit to children…”
Alleging that school authorities in the state are violating the law by forcing parents to provide Aadhaar cards, Greneth urged the minister to review the matter and issue a fresh notification to all school authorities exempting students from Aadhaar.
