SHILLONG, Jan 28: The UDP which is part of the NPP-led MDA 2.0 Government has welcomed the BJP’s announcement of constituting a fact-finding committee to look into reports of illegal coal mining and transportation across the state.
Asserting that any form of illegality has to be condemned, UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh on Tuesday said the party practices zero tolerance as far as corruption is concerned.
“We welcome any type of probe to unearth any illegality. We are public leaders and the public also look forward to that. Who would tolerate any illegal activity?”
Recalling that the UDP has never remained silent on pressing or controversial issues affecting the state, he said, “We need such committees because we need to be more transparent and accountable. If we are serving the public, they have the right to know.”
Emphasising that any kind of inquiry should arrive at a logical end, he said corrective steps have to be taken if any form of illegality is detected.
On Monday, the State BJP had announced that it will constitute a fact-finding committee to probe into allegations of illegal coal related activities.
