29 Naxalites surrender in Chhattisgarh
NARAYANPUR, Jan 29: Twenty-nine Naxalites, including seven women, surrendered in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh on Wednesday, a senior official said.The cadres belonging to Kutul area committee of Maoists turned themselves in before the police, BSF and Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) officials here citing disappointment with the “hollow” Maoist ideology and growing internal differences within the banned outfit, an official said. The surrendered cadres were active as members of Janatana Sarkar, militia, Chetna Natya Mandli ( – a cultural wing of Maoists) and lower rungs of Maoists, he said, terming the development as a major success for security forces. Special Armed Force inspector found murdered
INDORE, Jan 29: An inspector of the Madhya Pradesh police’s Special Armed Force (SAF) was found murdered in Indore, officials said on Wednesday.The body of Prabhu Narayan was found on Tuesday night, an official said.“Prabhu Narayan was an inspector in the SAF of the state police. He had a habit of drinking and used to remain absent from duty,” a senior police official said.“It is suspected that he had an argument with some unidentified person, which resulted in his murder due to sudden provocation,” he said.Police are investigating the case and collected the CCTV footage. Man tries to free undertrial prisoner from courtroom
THANE, Jan 29: A 19-year-old man allegedly tried to free his friend, an undertrial prisoner, from the custody of police in a courtroom in Thane district.The accused, Sujit Gupta, tried to communicate with Nagesh Dande through gestures in a courtroom of Kalyan court on Tuesday afternoon, following which police personnel asked him to leave the place.Gupta abused police personnel and pushed them. During the commotion, he tried to free Dande from police custody, an official said.Police overpowered Gupta and booked him.Police are scanning footage from CCTV cameras and recording statements of eyewitnesses to establish the sequence of events. BSF woman constable thwarts major infiltration bid
KOLKATA, Jan 29: BSF has claimed that a woman constable of the Malda Sector succeeded in thwarting a major infiltration bid by Bangladeshi nationals close to the Kutadah Border Outpost on Wednesday. A group of five to six armed Bangladeshi nationals were approaching the border fence near Aradhpur, in West Bengal’s Malda district when the constable from the 88 Bn BSF challenged them single-handedly.She displayed exemplary courage and did not hesitate to rush forward even after realising that the Bangladeshi nationals were carrying deadly weapons.She immediately shouted out a warning and alerted her colleagues over the radio.By then, they had got close to the fence and would have started damaging it had she not fired a shot from her service rifle. On hearing the noise and realising her resolve, the criminals ran helter-skelter, taking advantage of the thick fog. (IANS)
