Former militant nabbed with arms in EGH

TURA, Feb 3: A former militant belonging to the ANVC-B has been arrested for possession of an illegal and unlicensed pistol, which was also seized in the process.
According to East Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, SA Rynjah a special operation was launched after specific information was received during which Mexbal K Marak aka Menil (44) was arrested. Marak was arrested from Silchanggittim village under Rongjeng police station.
“He was apprehended from a place called Baringgre Chambildam and one Chinese-made 7.65 mm pistol was recovered from his possession,” the district police chief informed.
As per police, a preliminary interrogation confirmed that Marak was a member of the ANVC-B, who joined the outfit in 2008. He was among those that surrendered during the signing of the peace pact in 2015.
Marak’s arrest comes in the wake of another incident of recovery of weapons from the same district a few days ago. During the earlier incident, several 100 rounds of live ammunition including mortal shells belonging to the now defunct GNLA were recovered from a jungle in Rongjeng.
