IAF Mirage fighter jet crashes; pilots eject safely
Gwalior, Feb 6: A Mirage-2000 fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed in an agriculture field in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri district on Thursday afternoon after encountering a system malfunction, said the IAF. Both pilots ejected safely but suffered minor injuries and were being airlifted to Gwalior by a helicopter, officials said. The twin-seater trainer aircraft, which was on a routine sortie, caught fire after crashing at around 2.40 pm, said a Central Air Command spokesperson, adding a snag led to the accident. “A Mirage 2000 aircraft of the IAF crashed near Shivpuri (Gwalior), during a routine training sortie today, after encountering a system malfunction. Both the pilots ejected safely. An enquiry has been ordered by the IAF to ascertain the cause of the accident,” the Air Force said in a post on social media platform X. (PTI)
Premature baby’s body found in pile of trash
Thane, Feb 6: The body of a 36-week-old premature baby was discovered in a heap of garbage in Maharashtra’s Thane district on Thursday, police said. Passersby found the body wrapped in a sheet in the trash pile near a hotel in the Bhiwandi area, they said. The Narpoli police have registered a case and the body has been sent to a government hospital for post-mortem, said an official. (PTI)
Cop beaten up for stopping car
Indore, Feb 6: Two persons, including a jail department employee, have been detained for allegedly holding a police sub-inspector hostage and assaulting him in Indore, an official said on Thursday. The accused also made videos while targeting the on-duty cop. A video shows the duo asking the uniformed policeman his name before abusing and beating him. They also force him to sit inside their expensive car, as per the video. (PTI)
Man steals to pay off online game debts
Nagpur, Feb 6: A man was arrested in Nagpur for allegedly stealing Rs 6 lakh from the clothes store in which he was employed for the past nine years, a police official said on Thursday. Bharat Hedaoo (28) wanted to pay off debts of Rs 40,000 he had accumulated while playing online rummy, the Tehsil police station official added. “He stole Rs 5.96 lakh from the shop between January 30 and February 1. He also tampered with the tin roof of the shop to make it look like a break in. A probe showed there were no footmarks, prints etc on the tin, which confirmed it was the job of an insider. (PTI)
