USTM collaborates with UP Govt. to advance Swachh Bharat Mission – Urban 2.0

Guwahati, Feb 8: The University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM) was invited by the Government of Uttar Pradesh to participate in a high-level meeting with the Urban Development Department to support the state’s efforts in achieving the targets of Swachh Bharat Mission – Urban 2.0. USTM has been empanelled as a Swachhta Knowledge Partner (SKP) for various states across India under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for the year 2024.

Dr. Nibedita Paul, Project Director, SKP, SBM (U) 2.0, USTM, represented the university at the meeting held on January 23, 2025, in Lucknow. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Anuj Kumar Jha (IAS), State Mission Director, SBM UP, and focused on devising capacity-building strategies for all urban local bodies (ULBs) in Uttar Pradesh, according to a Press release.

Dr. Paul presented USTM’s strategic approach for achieving the mission’s objectives, highlighting key gaps that need to be addressed to accelerate progress. In recognition of USTM’s contributions, the Urban Development Department of Uttar Pradesh has extended an offer to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with USTM.

A total of eight SKPs from across India participated in the meeting, presenting their innovative proposals to enhance the capacity of ULBs in implementing effective waste management and sanitation practices in the state. Alongside Mr. Anuj Kumar Jha (IAS), the evaluation committee comprised senior officials, including the Additional Director, Deputy Director, Assistant Director (Accounts), and Finance & Accounts Officer.

The meeting concluded with a request for detailed proposals focusing on 12 key subject areas, paving the way for collaborative efforts toward a cleaner and more sustainable Uttar Pradesh. USTM expresses its gratitude to the Government of Uttar Pradesh for this significant opportunity to contribute to the nation’s sanitation and urban development goals.
