Prez Murmu to take holy dip in Sangam today
Mahakumbh Nagar, Feb 9: President Droupadi Murmu is set to participate in the ongoing Maha Kumbh by visiting Prayagraj on Monday and also take holy dip at the Triveni Sangam. During her visit, which will last over eight hours, the President will experience the Maha Kumbh’s grandeur and spiritual significance. She will offer prayers at the revered Akshayavat and Bade Hanuman Temple. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will also be present on the occasion. President Murmu will begin her day at the Sangam Nose, where she will take a ceremonial dip at the Triveni Sangam. Notably, the country’s first President, Dr Rajendra Prasad, had also taken a holy dip during the Maha Kumbh in the past. (IANS)
Woman ingests cocaine worth Rs 13 cr, held
New Delhi, Feb 9: The Customs Department on Sunday arrested a Brazilian woman with drugs valued at Rs 13 crore at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. The woman was caught red-handed with 866 grams of cocaine valued at Rs 12.999 crore in the international market. The woman hid the contraband in her stomach by ingesting about 98 cocaine capsules. The 26-year-old Brazilian reached Delhi from Sao Paulo via Paris and was subsequently nabbed and booked under Sections 21, 23, and 29 of the Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substances Act. During the investigation, the accused also confessed to swallowing drug capsules. She was taken to the hospital after officials detected a highly risky and concealed mode of drug smuggling. When the capsules were removed from her stomach and the wrapper was opened, the substance was found to be cocaine. (IANS)
Four B’deshi infiltrators held in West Bengal
Kolkata, Feb 9: Four Bangladeshi infiltrators and their Indian agent were arrested from the Hanskhali area of West Bengal’s Nadia district, which is close to the international border. Sources from the district police said that these four Bangladeshi infiltrators, who had entered India a few months back, were trying to go back again to their country late Saturday night. On being tipped off by their sources, the cops of the local Hanskhali Police first arrested these four infiltrators. From them, they came to know of their Indian agent, who helped them in entering India a few months back. The cops arrested that agent later. (IANS)
Man stabbed 73 times by grandson over property row
Hyderabad, Feb 9: Andhra industrialist Velamati Chandrasekhar Janardhan Rao’s grandson Keerthi Teja has been arrested for his brutal murder over a property dispute, police said on Sunday. Janardhan Rao, the head of the Veljan Group of Companies, was murdered at his residence in Hyderabad on Thursday night. The incident came to light late on Saturday after police arrested the accused kin. His US-returned grandson Keerthi Teja allegedly stabbed him with a knife 73 times after a heated argument over property. (IANS)
