SHILLONG, Feb 12: In a concerted effort to enhance security and governance in Shillong’s Cantonment areas, the Mission Director of the DREAM Mission, in collaboration with the Superintendent of Police (SP) of East Khasi Hills (EKH), met the CEO of the Cantonment Board, Shillong, Ayush Maurya, on Tuesday to discuss critical security measures.
During the discussions, it was agreed that regular joint meetings and collective inspections will be conducted to effectively assess and address prevailing security concerns. This collaborative approach aims to create a safer and more secure environment for all residents.
One of the key concerns raised was the vulnerability of certain hotspots to infiltration. Since Cantonment areas do not fall under the jurisdiction of Dorbar Shnongs, they face unique security challenges. To address this, a strategic infiltration control plan is being developed to closely monitor and restrict unauthorised movements.
As part of efforts to enhance surveillance and public safety, CCTV cameras will be installed at key locations within the Cantonment areas. This initiative aims to strengthen security infrastructure, deter criminal activities, and provide real-time monitoring for law enforcement agencies. The enhanced surveillance is also expected to play a crucial role in curbing illegal activities, particularly drug-related issues, which are a growing concern in the region.
The Director of DREAM Mission expressed gratitude to the CEO of the Cantonment Board, Shillong, for his responsiveness to security concerns and for fully supporting the proposed measures. This collaboration marks a significant step in ongoing efforts to ensure a safer and more secure Shillong.
