BJP delegation meets Union min for upgrade of city hospital

SHILLONG, Feb 13: A state BJP delegation, led by South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai and party’s state president Rikman Momin met Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju to propose the renovation of Red Cross Hospital in Laban. The plan includes replacing the existing dilapidated Assam-type structure with a modern building equipped with upgraded amenities.
Shullai emphasised the urgent need to upgrade the hospital, which falls under his constituency, to ensure thousands of BPL families continue to receive quality healthcare. He also expressed a personal connection to the hospital, where he was born, and envisioned transforming it into one of Shillong’s top maternity hospitals.
During the discussions, the Union minister reportedly showed keen interest in the project. The BJP now plans to meet Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to request that the proposal be prioritised and sent to the Minority Affairs department.
