SHILLONG, Feb 14: The KSU Employment Monitoring Cell on Friday met National Law University Meghalaya’s Vice Chancellor, Indrajit Dube, to express their discontent over the irregularities in appointments made in the University without following the due process of law and disregard to the Meghalaya State Reservation Policy.
However, the meeting ended on a sour note as the KSU claimed that the VC failed to clarify on their queries by stating that there is a governing council comprising senior government officials which takes care of the appointments.
The KSU alleged that all the appointees in the university are kin of the members of the governing council and the VC and were appointed without any advertisement or interview.
“We will meet the government to demand corrective measures and to seek rectification in the recruitment process,” the KSU members said.
Earlier, KSU Employment Monitoring Cell chairman, Reuben Najiar submitted a letter highlighting the discrepancies and irregularities in appointments which show lack of transparency and enunciates nepotism and favouritism.
The KSU pointed out the illegal appointment of Deputy Registrar Gurpreet Singh.
Najiar said that the said post was advertised on April 14 last and five candidates were shortlisted on the August 30 for the personal interview.
“Although, the result of the personal interview was never made public, appointment was illegally rendered to Gurpreet Singh without reason or rhyme,” he said, adding that the said post of deputy registrar was advertised as a “permanent post” for which the Meghalaya State Reservation Policy is mandatory but the Singh was appointed on a contractual basis.
Among other issues, the KSU flagged the irregularities in appointments of Associate Professors and Assistant Professors, and disregard to local festivals of the Khasi and other important dates for the Khasi community.
The NLU VC could not be reached for his comments despite messages and calls to his number which is available in the institute’s website.
