SHILLLONG, Feb 23: The general body of the Shillong All Faiths Forum (SAFF), which has joined hands in the fight against drugs in the state, exhorted its newly appointed office-bearers to lead the fight resolutely.
The SAFF has confirmed Bishop P Lyngdoh as president, Naba Bhattacharjee as vice president, Noor Nongrum as general secretary, Arup Barua as assistant general secretary, Jasbir Singh as treasurer and Rev Kharkongor as media assistant.
Conveying gratitude to Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh and his team for the recently held meeting with faith leaders in the city, the SAFF has exuded confidence in the department’s DREAM project led by Mission Director Francis G Kharshiing along with the support of members of SAFF and leaders from other faiths.
It assured the government that the members will support this effort to rid the state from the menace of drugs and other evils that plague the society.
“SAFF requests all its members and units to take pro-active steps in getting the expert, technical and financial support of the government under the Drug Rehabilitation, Elimination and Action Mission (DREAM) project to facilitate and arrange different programmes in their institutions and also regularly reach out to their congregations. SAFF will guide and support the members in this effort and will be part of these programmes,” the faith organisation said in a statement issued here.
