SHILLONG, Feb 27: After nearly two decades of persistent efforts, the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) has finally been empanelled under the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS). The official agreement was signed on February 25.
The inclusion of NEIGRIHMS in the CGHS network is expected to bridge a critical gap in medical services for thousands of beneficiaries in the region. Prof Nalin Mehta, Director of NEIGRIHMS, hailed the development as a landmark achievement, and talked about how this move would expand healthcare access and ensure high-quality treatment for CGHS beneficiaries. Medical Superintendent of NEIGRIHMS, Dr Animesh Mishra, highlighted the years of dedicated efforts leading up to this moment. “This has been a long-standing demand and the result of continuous collaboration and advocacy. We are thrilled that NEIGRIHMS will now serve a wider group of patients who depend on CGHS for medical support,” he said.
Deputy Medical Superintendent and Nodal Officer for CGHS at NEIGRIHMS, Dr Caleb Harris, assured that the scheme would be fully operational by April 2025, allowing beneficiaries seamless access to medical services at the institute.
With NEIGRIHMS now part of the CGHS network, patients across the Northeast will no longer have to travel long distances for quality medical care.
