Shillong, Feb 29: Newly elected KHADC Chairman Strong Pillar Kharjana suggested that the opposition should have a consensus candidate for the post of the Leader of the Opposition.
While speaking to reporters, the chairman said that it has not come to his notice if there is such a tussle between the UDP and NPP on this.
“I expect that the opposition will function as one united combined force. But it will depend on whom they will want to nominate for the LO’s post,” he said while assuring that he will take a neutral stand on the matter.
The newly elected chairman also said that he is ready to intervene if necessary to help the opposition to have a consensus on the LO post.
Meanwhile, Kharjana said that he received a suggestion that he should take the initiative as the chairman to translate the various laws of the council into Khasi.
“I will first seek a legal opinion if we can translate the laws of the council since it is a legal matter,” Kharjana said.
The newly elected chairman assured that he will maintain a non-partisan stand by giving equal opportunity to members from both the ruling and opposition.
