Dust, Detours & Daily Struggles
Upper Shillong is drowning in dust, thanks to the ongoing four-lane road construction.. For two-wheeler riders, it’s a nightmare, by the time they reach their destination, they look like they’ve just returned from an off-road adventure.
To make things worse, road closures come with no proper signs. Near the junction leading to Shillong Peak, drivers are left second-guessing their route, often taking wrong turns. Confusion reigns, and so does the dust.
For elderly residents, stepping out means battling the dust cloud. Breathing issues are on the rise, and no amount of face masks seem to help. Perhaps it’s time for authorities to step in with proper diversions and, maybe, a good round of road-cleaning. After all, progress shouldn’t come at the cost of our lungs!
Shillong’s Weekly Quakes
Shillong seems to be on a shaky routine, an earthquake here, a tremor there. Almost every week, the ground reminds us that it’s alive and kicking. Some are mild enough to ignore, others strong enough to make people glance at each other and run out of their buildings, just in case.
The real worry is not these small tremors but the uncertainty. No one knows if a bigger quake is lurking around the corner. Shillong, after all, sits in a high seismic zone, and history isn’t exactly comforting.
For now, life goes on. Residents have mastered the art of brushing off minor tremors like they do power cuts, but deep down, everyone hopes the next shake isn’t the one that history will remember. Until then, we live, we shake, and we wait, for the best.
