Adokgre, March 3: The issue of power disconnection and over billing of customers prevails in Adokgre area of North Garo Hills, the Achik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM), Adokgre regional unit said in its complaint letter addressed to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
The group met Power Minister AT Mondal to submit the complaint to the CM through the minister.
In the complaint, AHAM members stated that people of the area of Adokgre were facing serious hardships over the exaggerated bills they were getting as well as the unjustified disconnection of electricity to many users in the area.
“People using 2-3 bulbs are getting bills of Rs 600-700 which is exorbitant and causing them great hardships. Instead of addressing these issues, the Power department has taken extreme steps and disconnected their lines without prior notice,” informed AHAM in their complaint.
The AHAM stated that people voted for good governance and transparency and were now suffering from the denial of even their basic rights.
“Electricity is essential for education and thus this sudden disconnection is affecting those trying to prepare for their Board examinations,” they added.
Asking the state government to immediately look at restoring these connections, AHAM stated that there was a need to work on fair billing processes to ensure consumer rights were not violated.
