Shillong, March 7: The Meghalaya State Kickboxing Association, in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Sports Training Centre (STC) Shillong, conducted a One-Day Kickboxing Self-Defence Awareness and Basic Training programme as part of the Women’s Day Week celebration on Thursday.
The event, held at Mary Mount Higher Secondary School, Mawlai Mawtawar, witnessed the participation of 80 girl students.
The initiative aligns with the Fit India Mission under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, which is observing Women’s Day Week from March 3 to 9, 2025. The week-long campaign aims to engage women in various activities promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, healthy nutrition, and social inclusion. The programme is being organised in collaboration with Union and State Government departments, universities, NGOs, and Self-Help Groups under the theme “Stronger Her, Healthier Future.”
The training session aimed to equip participants with basic self-defence techniques, enhancing their personal safety, confidence, and overall well-being. The Sports Authority of India has approved the event to be conducted at 32 SAI Training Centres and National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs) across the country in association with WAKO India Kickboxing Federation.
