SHILLONG, March 9: The Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB) received prestigious Hulladek Honours 2025 for its exemplary efforts in the management and scientific disposal of e-waste.
The award was bestowed on MSPCB by M/s Hulladek Recycling Pvt Ltd, Kolkata at an event held at Dhona Dhanyo Auditorium, Kolkata on Saturday.
MSPCB member secretary Dr GH Chyrmang received the award. He was accompanied by environmental engineer in-charge of e-waste management JF Lamurong.
This accolade highlights the board’s commitment to promoting sustainable environmental practices and creating awareness on proper disposal and recycling of electronic waste.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Chyrmang expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating, “This award reflects our continuous efforts to manage e-waste in a manner that ensures the health and safety of our environment and the people of Meghalaya.” “We are committed to strengthening our initiatives and collaborating with stakeholders to foster a cleaner, greener future for the state,” he said.
Further, he stated that the initiative, which includes collection drives, awareness campaigns, and the establishment of authorised collection centres, has played an essential role in reducing the harmful impact of e-waste on Meghalaya’s ecosystem and achieving the collection targets as specified under extended producer responsibility.
The MSPCB, in collaboration with Hulladek, has worked toward ensuring responsible recycling of components, preventing toxic substances from contaminating soil and water resources.
As part of its ongoing commitment, the board plans to expand its e-waste management programmes, with a focus on creating widespread awareness among citizens and organizations on the importance of responsible electronic waste disposal. The board also aims to continue its collaboration with industry leaders, such as Hulladek, to foster sustainable practices across the state.
This recognition is a significant milestone in Meghalaya’s journey toward becoming a model state in sustainable waste management, particularly in the growing challenge of e-waste management.
In the past 18 months, nearly 50,000 kg of discarded electrical and electronics items have been collected and disposed of through Hulladek and other authorised collection centres operating in the state.
Hulladek, a leading e-waste management company in eastern India, presented the award in acknowledgement of MSPCB’s significant role in facilitating the safe disposal and recycling of e-waste.
The partnership between the two has been pivotal in ensuring that discarded electronic devices are handled responsibly and in compliance with environmental regulations.
