Four booked for selling infant for Rs 1.6 lakh
Barabanki (UP), March 9: Four people, including a couple here have been booked for allegedly selling their two-month-old child to a businessman from Lucknow for Rs 1.6 lakh, police said on Sunday. The incident came to light on Friday night, prompting police action that resulted in recovery of the child from a businessman’s house in Lucknow on Saturday, officials said. Police said that the infant is now under the protection of the Child Welfare Committee. According to District Coordinator of the Child Helpline, Manoj Kumar, the couple from Kotwali area had handed over their child for adoption to Mohammad Yasir, a scrap business owner from Lucknow, on March 5. The accused father, who already has two other children, cited financial constraint as reason for taking this step. (PTI)

10 Bangladeshis nabbed in Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar, March 9: Ten Bangladeshis were apprehended at the Bhubaneswar railway station on Sunday for allegedly travelling in India without any valid documents, police said. Among them were six men, three women and a minor, they said. The arrests were made by the Special Task Force of the Odisha Police on the basis of a tip-off, SP (STF) Rabi Narayan Satpathy said. During interrogation, they revealed that they had crossed the border illegally with the help of a smuggler near Dhubri in Assam, he added. (PTI)

UP: 6 booked in case of religious conversion
Amethi, March 9: A case has been registered against four women and a couple following allegations of unlawful religious conversion activities, police said on Sunday. Residents of a village under Jagdishpur police station area reported that a prayer meeting was being held on the second floor of a house, allegedly involving Christian missionary activities and enticements for conversion, they said. Musafirkhana DSP Atul Kumar Singh said, “We raided the location and detained several men and women for questioning. The accused have been booked under sections of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act.” Further investigation into the case is underway. (PTI)
