Shella MLA asks govt to protect border areas
By Our Reporter
SHILLONG, March 10: UDP MLA from Shella, Balajied Kupar Synrem has emphasized the need to protect the areas along the international border with Bangladesh.
Speaking about the recent reports of drones entering India from Bangladesh and in light of the current scenario in Bangladesh, Synrem stated that the state government must take action to ensure that regions near the international border are sealed.
He stressed the need for good fencing to prevent the Pyrdiwah incident in 2001, where Bangladesh forces entered India and left after stealing numerous things.
Synrem also suggested that the government should closely monitor the international border, especially with regards to trade, as the political situation in Bangladesh has significantly affected the situation.
Seeking a review of the Meghalaya Investment Promotion Authority (MIPA) due to its “flaws”, Synrem urged Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to discuss the situation in the Garo Hills region which is experiencing a shortage of employment opportunities for local youth.
He praised the government’s initiative to allow investors to participate and provide investment.
