Sensitisation on conservation of Umngot river

SHILLONG, March 15: In commemoration of the International Day of Action for Rivers, a sensitisation workshop on ‘Conversation of Umngot River Riparian Ecosystem for Ecological Sustainability’ was held on Thursday by the Environmental Information Awareness Capacity Building and Livelihood Programme (EIACP), State Council of Science Technology & Environment (SCSTE), Meghalaya, in collaboration with the Nongtalang College, West Jaintia Hills.
Thematised on “Our Rivers, our future,” the workshop aimed to sensitise the general public, especially the local youths, about the importance of protecting and conserving the Umngot river, and to encourage, strength and deepen community involvement
in safeguarding the future health of the river system.
It may be noted that EIACP Programme Centre-Hub, SCSTE, Meghalaya, is a newly established programme centre set up under the State Council of Science, Technology and Environment, Meghalaya supported by the Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change.
