Rs 130 crore for 11-km road stretch between NST, airport

SHILLONG, March 20: The Meghalaya government has allocated over Rs 130 crore for the construction of an 11.1-kilometer road connecting New Shillong Township to VIP Airport Road at Nogkohlew.
The Chief Engineer of PWD (Roads) has invited tenders for the construction of this two-lane road, which will extend from the West Corridor of New Shillong Township, Mawpat, to VIP Airport Road. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 130.98 crore, which includes Rs 118 crore for construction, Rs 11.8 crore (10%) for five years of maintenance, and Rs 1.18 crore (1%) for quality control.
The project involves extensive work, including jungle clearance, earthwork, formation cutting, and protection measures. It also includes metalling, blacktopping, paved shoulders, and the installation of lined drains and high-performance concrete (HPC).
Traffic signs, road markings, and other necessary appurtenances will be added for safety and efficiency. The plan further includes the construction of a 4-meter by 3-meter box culvert, two bridges with a 100-metre right effective span and a 35-foot skew, complete with footpaths, and the installation of a utility duct.
The project is expected to be completed within 24 months from the issuance of the final work order.
