M’laya karatekas to take part in U-21, senior nationals

Shillong, March 26: A 15-member contingent from Meghalaya is set to compete in the Karate India Organisation’s U-21 and Senior National Championship 2025, which will be held in Hyderabad from March 27-29, 2025 at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium.
The team, selected by the All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association, will be led by coach Donboklang Lyngdoh and team manager Rodrick Syiem.
Among the participants, Kynjailin L Mawnai and Carene Sohiong will compete in the U-21 women’s -50kg and -55kg categories, respectively, while Ram Lanong (-55kg), Gideon Tympuin (-60kg and Men Team Kata), and Kynpham Kharkongor (-67kg) will represent the state in the U-21 men’s division. In the senior women’s category, Rebeka Nongspung (-50kg), Larisha Kurbah (-55kg), and Barisha Kharbani (-61kg) will take part, whereas Nangkitbok Phira (-50kg), Cheltis Shylla (-55kg), Paul Danny Kharmudai (-60kg), Gary Daniel L Mawlong (-67kg), and Ialamphang Kharkongor (-75kg) will compete in the senior men’s individual events. Additionally, Ferdinand Samkupar Rani and Gregorwilson Makdoh will represent Meghalaya in the Men Team Kata event.
The tournament will serve as a crucial platform for the state’s karatekas to showcase their skills on the national stage.
