Futsal tournament kicks off in Tura

Tura, March 27: The ICFAI University, Meghalaya, Tura Campus, in collaboration with the District Football Association, Tura, and the District Sports Office, West Garo Hills, officially launched the Super 5 NJY Memorial Cup 2025 Futsal Tournament on Thursday at GBHSS Chandmari Football Turf, Tura.
The opening ceremony began at 10:00 AM, with Karishma Dahal, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of English, presiding over the event. Chompaboti Hajong, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Management, welcomed the gathering, setting the stage for an inspiring inaugural address by Vice Chancellor Alicia Gatphoh. She highlighted the crucial role of sports in youth development and its impact on fostering community engagement.
District Sports Officer Saljagring M. Marak introduced the participating teams and elaborated on the tournament’s rules and regulations. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Abijit Sarkar, Assistant Professor from the Department of English, who acknowledged the contributions of speakers, organizers, and participants.
With 30 teams competing, the three-day tournament promises an exciting showcase of sportsmanship, teamwork, and regional talent, bringing together players and enthusiasts in a spirited celebration of futsal.
