Shillong, March 31: The Meghalaya Sport Climbing & Mountaineering Association announced on Monday that Keliostar Pdai and Balawanhabor Rynjah are both in Darjeeling to undertake mountaineering courses at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute.
Pdai, a Battalion Constable of the 3rd Meghalaya Police Battalion, will undergo the Basic Mountaineering Course, while Rynjah, a student of Sankardev College, will attend the Advance Mountaineering Course.
These courses will begin tomorrow and conclude on 28th April. The participation of the pair has been sponsored by the Meghalaya government’s Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs.
The BMC is the foundation course where the trainees will be initiated into acclimatisation at high altitudes, rock and ice craft, basic study of the mountain vegetation, trekking and survival skills.
The AMC typically lasts 28 days and aims at training climbers to become potential leaders and members of expeditions into the Great Himalayas and to churn out ‘Lead Climbers.’
