SHILLONG, March 31: Despite repeated assurances from the state government to complete the long-delayed Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) at the earliest, the project remains far from completion.
The latest commitment was to finish the scheme by December 2025, but with April 2025 already here, several key components—amid allegations of corruption—are yet to be completed.
According to the JJM Dashboard, 5,29,885 households (81.98 per cent) have been provided with tap water connections since the scheme’s launch, out of a total target of 6,50,914 households in Meghalaya.
The data further reveals that out of 6,456 villages, 4,123 villages have achieved 100 per cent household tap connections, while water supply work is still in progress in 2,322 villages.
Among districts, South Garo Hills has recorded the highest progress, with 90.82 per cent of households receiving tap water connections.
However, the worst-performing district remains East Jaintia Hills, where only 66.70% of households have been connected to the water supply so far.
