SHILLONG, March 31: Rajya Sabha MP WR Kharlukhi on Monday underscored the vital role of traditional heads such as the Rangbah Shnongs in society, acknowledging their selfless service in fostering community unity and governance.
Speaking at the inauguration of Nongkseh’s newly constructed community hall, Dr. Kharlukhi highlighted that despite the lack of financial incentives, Rangbah Shnongs remain the backbone of grassroots administration, ensuring the well-being and progress of their communities.
It may be mentioned that the inauguration of the community hall marked the realisation of a long-held aspiration for the people of Nongkseh.
Funded through the Rajya Sabha MP scheme and the Chief Minister’s Special Development Fund (CMSDF), the new community hall is expected to serve as a crucial space for social, cultural and administrative gatherings.
During the programme Rangbah Shnong of Nongkseh, Myrank Thangkhiew, expressed gratitude for the financial and administrative support that made the project possible.
He said the community hall’s project completion fulfills a long-standing dream of the community and acknowledged the pivotal role played by the government in facilitating the process.
The inaugural event was attended by Toshan Marwein, Block Development Officer (BDO) of Mylliem C&RD Block, Daniel Thangkhiew, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Chief Minister, representatives from the Shastri Memorial Dispensary, local leaders from Nongkseh and Lummawbah, and local residents.
