SHILLONG, March 31: The long-pending demand of Lumparing residents for direct access to Laban was finally fulfilled on Monday with the opening of a crucial road, allowing people to travel directly from Lumparing to Dhobighat area.
South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai inaugurated the Tendro Ryntathiang Road in Laban, which has been constructed at a cost of Rs 4.72 crore under the PWD SPA scheme.
Addressing the inaugural event, Shullai said the 0.281 km road up to PWD Roads Dhobighat would significantly benefit residents who previously faced difficulties commuting. He added that with the new route, travel time between Lumparing and Laban has been reduced by 30-40 minutes.
The MLA also expressed gratitude to the locals for giving up their land for the project and noted that the road would also help ease the increasing traffic congestion in the area.
Others who were part of the event include local Rangbah Shnongs, residents and PWD officials.
