NIT Meghalaya’s cultural festival opens with classical music maestro

SHILLONG, April 3: The much-anticipated SHISHIR 2025, NIT Meghalaya’s annual cultural festival, kicked off with a mesmerising classical performance by Padma Shri Pandit Satish Vyas in association with SPIC MACAY. Held for the first time at the institute’s permanent campus in Sohra, the festival promises an exciting blend of art, music and cultural diversity from Thursday and is to continue until Saturday. The grand opening was attended by A. Wanshai Shynret, Deputy Director of NEIAH Shillong, as the chief guest, along with Anendya Raajsshre, IAS, as the guest of honour, alongside Director of NIT Meghalaya, Prof. Pinakeswar Mahanta. SHISHIR 2025 offers a vibrant line-up of events, including dance competitions, drama performances, band battles, literary activities and a cultural exhibition. A key attraction is the power-packed concert by Bollywood playback singer Tushar Joshi on the second day. The festival also features fashion shows, open-mic sessions, filmmaking showcases and photography contests, with a food fest adding to the excitement. With enthusiastic participation from students across Shillong, SHISHIR 2025 is more than just a festival—it is a stage for passion, creativity and artistic expression.

NEEPCO donates vehicle to Shillong Military Hospital
SHILLONG, April 3: NEEPCO on Thursday donated a six-seater battery-operated vehicle to the Military Hospital in Shillong as part of its CSR Scheme for 2024-25. Speaking at the handover ceremony, GOC of 101 Area, Lt Gen Sanjay Malik, said the initiative would greatly benefit veterans by easing their commute to different hospital departments. He also assured that the Military Hospital remains the first responder to any accidents on nearby roads and that the vehicle would enhance its emergency response capabilities. Meanwhile, NEEPCO Director (Personnel), Major General Rajesh Kumar Jha, expressed gratitude to the Military Hospital for its dedicated service to army personnel and civilians in the state capital. On the occasion, the NEEPCO team was also felicitated for their contribution.
