SHILLONG, April 10: With the current Meghalaya House in Guwahati being small and congested, the Meghalaya government is considering the construction of a new state guest house between Byrnihat and Khanapara. The aim is to provide affordable and accessible accommodation for government officials, employees, and visitors from the state.
General Administration Department (GAD) Minister Rakkam Sangma stated that the government is actively exploring this idea, particularly within Meghalaya’s territory between Byrnihat and Khanapara.
“We have been informed that there is a plot of land belonging to the GAD, and we are currently evaluating the feasibility,” he said.
According to Sangma, if the guest house is constructed in that area, travelers will be able to reach the Guwahati Airport from Khanapara within 15 to 20 minutes.
Regarding the need for a Meghalaya House in Bengaluru, Sangma said the government has decided to purchase a plot of land to develop it into a guest house.
“We are writing to the Karnataka government to complete the necessary procedures,” he added.
