Shillong, April 11: The North-Eastern Hill University Teachers’ Association (NEHUTA) and the North-Eastern Hill University Non-Teaching Staff Association (NEHUNSA) have expressed their support for Prof. Sherwin May Sungoh as the Acting Vice Chancellor of NEHU.
The two associations held a joint meeting to assess the university’s ongoing developments. NEHUTA president Lakhon Kma affirmed that the associations would fully support Prof. Sungoh in performing her duties as Acting VC, in accordance with Ministry of Education directives.
He clarified that Prof. Sungoh is empowered to convene meetings of the Executive Council, Academic Council, and Finance Committee, make temporary appointments, and nominate a Pro Vice Chancellor.
He also stated that the Acting Vice Chancellor is not authorised to amend the university’s Act, Statutes, Regulations, or Ordinances.
Prof. Sungoh was not present at the campus on Friday due to official commitments in Tura.
She resigned as Pro Vice Chancellor of the Shillong Campus on Thursday, just 20 days after assuming the role.
