JOWAI, April 12: Members of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Shangpung unit, have called on the Regional Manager of Meghalaya Rural Bank, Shillong, stressing the need for Khasi-speaking staff at the bank’s Shangpung branch.
Led by its president Samla Phrangki Papang and general secretary Samla Sowatki Law, the KSU highlighted the communication difficulties faced by local residents due to the absence of staff who speak Khasi.
They pointed out that many villagers struggle to communicate in Hindi, which is currently the primary language used by the branch staff.
According to the KSU, Regional Manager, Rana A. Lyngdoh, in response, has assured the delegation that the issue would be taken up seriously.
He informed the union that Khasi-speaking staff would be deployed to the Shangpung branch within a few days to make banking services more accessible and user-friendly for the local population.
