SHILLONG, April 14: Following their appeal to Shillong Lok Sabha member, Ricky AJ Syngkon, the KSU has now sought the intervention of Tura Lok Sabha member, Saleng A Sangma, regarding ongoing recruitment issues at NEIGRIHMS.
The KSU delegation, led by their president Lambokstarwell Marngar and general secretary Donald V Thabah emphasized four key issues, primarily advocating for local youth to be given priority in recruitment to central institutions like NEIGRIHMS.
Although NEIGRIHMS Director Nalin Mehta has denied the existence of any such 80:20 ratio in nursing recruitment, Marngar claimed the KSU possesses evidence showing that similar ratios are enforced in other central institutions like AIIMS.
The KSU president urged the MP to address the implementation of a mandatory 80:20 female-to-male ratio of nurses for effective functioning of the institute and remove the current requirement for nurses to have experience of working in a minimum of 50-bed hospitals.
Marngar also highlighted the recruitment of male nurses from Rajasthan, which has led to communication difficulties for rural patients due to language barriers.
He also criticized the 2023 recruitment process under NORCET, describing it as a “huge blunder” by NEIGRIHMS, claiming that a large number of untrained and unqualified male nurses were recruited.
Both MPs, Sangma and Syngkon, intend to take up the matter with Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, emphasizing the need to streamline the recruitment process at NEIGRIHMS, the KSU said.
The MPs will push to put the recruitment process on hold if the concerns raised by the KSU are not addressed, Marngar said, while slamming the NEIGRIHMS Director for allegedly misleading the public by stating that the recruitment was being conducted in accordance with the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) guidelines.
