Shillong airport to accommodate large aircraft by next year: Dhar

SHILLONG, April 14: Deputy Chief Minister, Sniawbhalang Dhar announced on Monday that work to expand the Shillong Airport is set to begin shortly, with the aim of accommodating larger aircraft by next year.
Dhar told reporters that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has already issued a tender for the expansion project. He expressed optimism that the airport would be capable of handling bigger aircraft by 2026.
The land acquisition process is nearly finished and compensation disbursement is expected to follow shortly, he said, adding that physical work will begin soon.
Talking about the Smart City projects, Dhar said ongoing works would be completed next year and the second phase will begin immediately after that.
He said 98% work on the Polo shopping mall has been completed, and construction of the parking lots is also progressing smoothly.
He further informed that the PWD is working on a fresh DPR to resurface all city roads and the sanction will be accorded soon.
