SHILLONG, April 14: VPP’s Mawryngkneng MLA, Heaving Stone Kharpran has urged the state government to initiate a comprehensive inquiry into the mysterious circumstances leading to the death of Ribokson Dkhar Sawian, a member of the Civil Defence and Home Guards, in Assam recently.
Kharpran termed Sawian’s death as murder and said, “His death is suspicious, and the investigation needs to find the truth and identify the true cause. Those responsible must be apprehended and subject to legal punishment if it turns out that he was murdered.”
After speaking with the Superintendent of Police, the MLA claimed to have learnt that a case had been filed in relation to the incident.
Noting that Sawian lived in his constituency, Kharpran also expressed his sympathies to the family of the deceased.
It should be mentioned that on April 9, the Assam Police reported discovering Ribokson’s body close to a roadside dhaba in Gauripur.
Assam Police suspected that he might have had a heart attack. Sawian’s brother, however, refuted this allegation in an FIR, calling the death “unnatural”, and urging the state police to conduct a more thorough investigation.
The family said that before deciding on their next course of action, they will wait for the post-mortem results.
Ribokson was part of a 22-member team undergoing basic disaster management training at the First NDRF Battalion camp in Changsari, Guwahati.
The training started on April 7 and is expected to end on June 6, according to officials.
