SHILLONG, April 15: Union Minister of State (MoS) for Women and Child Development Savitri Thakur on Tuesday lauded the efforts of the Meghalaya government in ensuring the implementation of key centrally sponsored schemes aimed at empowering women and children across the state.
As part of her official visit in Shillong to strengthen the execution of flagship programmes of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the MoS chaired a series of high-level review meetings during the day.
She held comprehensive discussions with senior officials of the Social Welfare department on schemes such as Poshan Abhiyan, Mission Shakti and Mission Vatsalya.
During the deliberations, the MoS underscored the importance of strengthening service delivery at the grassroots level, particularly in enhancing the functioning of Anganwadi Centres.
The review covered several critical areas including the need for consistent and high-quality supplementary nutrition under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), infrastructural improvements to make Anganwadi Centres more child- and women-friendly and the adoption of technology for real-time monitoring and beneficiary tracking.
The MoS then accentuated the significance of community participation and capacity-building of Anganwadi workers to ensure more effective service outcomes.
Lauding the efforts of the state government, the MoS said, “Despite the difficulties in connectivity and electricity, officials are working with dedication to ensure that all schemes are effectively implemented. I commend their efforts and encourage them to keep updating data on the Poshan Tracker, as these reports help the Ministry respond quickly to on-ground needs.”
She then reiterated the Centre’s commitment to achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Viksit Bharat, stating that every effort in empowering women and children contributes meaningfully to that goal.
In continuation of her visit to the Northeastern region, the MoS also held an in-depth review with the East Khasi Hills district administration.
The meeting, attended by local MLA Ollan Singh Suin and officials from various departments, featured detailed presentations on development schemes and infrastructure projects in the district.
Further, discussions were focused on scheme implementation across key sectors like health, education, rural development and livelihood generation, with a special focus on outreach in remote and rural areas.
Later in the day, the MoS paid a courtesy visit to the Governor CH Vijayashankar. “The meeting included discussions on state-led initiatives to enhance women and child welfare and boost community-based interventions for inclusive development,” a statement in this regard said.
