J Khriem FC emerge champions at futsal tourney in city

SHILLONG, April 19: J Khriem FC emerged victorious in the grand finale of the First Futsal Knockout Tournament organised by the William Carey University Football Club (WCUFC) at GR Turf, Nongmensong, Shillong, bringing the curtain down on an action-packed competition that witnessed participation from 32 teams across Meghalaya.
In a thrilling title clash, J Khriem FC defeated Umkdait Block 4 FC to lift the winner’s trophy, while the latter had to settle for the runner-up position after a spirited performance throughout the tournament.
The closing ceremony was graced by the Honourable Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Soma Bhowmick, who handed over the trophies to the top teams and lauded the participants and organisers for the successful conduct of the event. She also reiterated the university’s ongoing commitment to holistic development through both academic excellence and sports.
The tournament, aimed at promoting youth engagement and community bonding through football, marked a significant milestone in WCUFC’s efforts to create a vibrant sports culture in the region.
